Description
SIRE, Houston?s Therapeutic Equestrian Center, has been providing therapeutic activities for children and adults with disabilities since 1983. Therapeutic activities are done on horseback. Many studies that have been conducted throughout the world unanimously prove the effectiveness of equine therapy. SIRE is also an approved Wounded Warrior Project provider. SIRE Fort Bend, one of three SIRE sites, is accepting new volunteers, side walkers and horse leaders to our program. Side walkers do not need horse experience. horse leaders need to have a good knowledge of horses. Formal training events for new volunteers are conducted 3 times a year at the beginning of the summer, fall and spring sessions. The next scheduled training event for the upcoming summer session will take place on Saturday, June 4, 2016. All those who are interested in volunteering should contact Maryann Gerity, SIRE Volunteer Coordinator at 281-344-4308 or by email at mgerity@sire-htec.org on or before May 21st for the June event. Please call or email Maryann Gerity to arrange a visit so you can experience firsthand the wonder of therapeutic riding. We are located on the grounds of the Richmond State Supported Living Center, 2100 Preston St., Richmond, Texas.
