Description

The Houston region’s process of decision-making around transportation infrastructure has changed drastically over the course of past 70 years. We need to understand those shifts in order to continue to create systems that meet everyone’s mobility needs.

Infrastructural debates are among the most influential a city/region can have since the projects last for so long and affect a whole range of follow-up decisions. Residents engaging in these debates are trying to shape their own daily experiences and the future of a city/region.

Houston, like many cities and regions, has focused a great deal on highway and car-centric development. This has created unique challenges and opportunities for the region today and in the future. As other mobility options are considered we have to understand how they fit into past decisions and how we might adapt our current systems.
